Final Report | Official World Transplant Games 2025
The curtain came down today on a remarkable week at the World Transplant Games 2025.
On the track, our 200m sprinters set the tone before the 800m athletes took to the lanes. Mairéad O’Mahony delivered her third Gold medal of the week — this one extra special as she set a new World Record by 0.2 seconds! John Moran ran a strong race to finish 4th in the 800m.
The men’s relay team — Bryan Duignan, Trevor Lynch, Peter O’Reilly, and Mark Mulhall — ran with power and pride, finishing 3rd in their heats and narrowly missing out on the medals.
The athletics programme closed with the always poignant Circle of Life Ceremony, followed by the Closing Ceremony.
Tonight, the Gala Dinner gave Team Ireland the chance to celebrate an incredible medal haul:
🥇 11 Gold
🥈 12 Silver
🥉 5 Bronze
But beyond the medals, it was about spirit, courage, and pride. Every athlete, whether medalling or not, wore the Irish top with distinction and showed the world the success of organ donation. True heroes.
A huge thank you to Harry Ward for his tireless work behind the scenes, ensuring the smooth running of the team all week. Thanks also to all who shared updates, interviews, and photos, and to our wonderful supporters in Dresden and back home. You are part of this story too.
💚 Team Ireland, you have inspired us all.
📅 Next stop: European Transplant Games 2026, Arnhem, Netherlands (21–27 June). Save the date.
